Ms. Temple has been
the Director of Choral Activities at York High School since 2003.
Prior to her activities at YHS she was the music teacher at Magruder
Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia. Ms. Temple received
her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Christopher Newport
University where she was a part of the well known Chamber
Singers. Frequently performing as a soloist in Classical and
Operatic idioms, her roles have included “Narrator” in
Fables, “Usher” in Trial by Jury,
“Arvide” in Guys and Dolls, “Mary
Sunshine” in Chicago and “Cio-Cio San” in
Madame Butterfly. In addition, Ms. Temple has toured professionally
as a soloist in Germany, The Netherlands and Scotland. She has
also performed in area churches as both Mezzo Soprano and Soprano
soloist in the Handel Messiah, and most recently the Vivaldi
Gloria. She has recorded with Jennifer Barker and is a
featured soloist in her “Nyvaigs” CD. She has
studied voice under Robert Turner, Dr. Lauren Fowler, Dr. David
Means, and currently Mrs. Renee Root. York High School's Chamber
Chorus was invited to perform the National
Anthem for the Washington Wizards in 2007. In 2007 the Jazz Choir won "Overall Best Choir"
at two different competitions last year. York High School's
Choir are known for their Superior ratings. The director's
next goal is to have one of the choirs soon sing at the White House.
