I am proud to say that I have been teaching
in the special
education department at York
High School
since
1978! My journey in special education
began
at Old Dominion University, where I received my undergraduate degree in
special
education with an emphasis in communication disorders.
After working at York High School for a year,
I became the recipient of a series of grants, allowing me to obtain
endorsement
in the field of Learning Disabilities through course work at the
graduate
level, while working in that capacity at York. In
May 1987, I completed my Master’s Degree in
Education through ODU
with an emphasis in Secondary Education. Additionally,
I later participated in a regional program,
sponsored by
the local and Southside school divisions obtaining endorsement in
working with
students identified as having Emotional Disturbance.
Throughout this, I remained a Falcon, always
calling York
High School
home!
When not at school, I am
probably doing something to support
the activities of my family, including my two children, Kaitlyn, an
undergrad at
The University of Virginia and my son, Eric, a student at Grafton High.
Occasionally, I have a moment with my husband, Nelson, a planner at the
shipyard, and AVID fisherman, or with my precious Chihuahua, Quesadilla.
