3.    Course Description:

This course provides a thorough treatment of advanced algebraic concepts. Emphasis is placed on applications and modeling.

 

4.    Competencies:

Upon completion of this course, you will be better able to

 

do the following:

 

1.                   Demonstrate the ability to communicate solutions to mathematical and real world problems.

2.                 Use technology where appropriate in the application of algebraic process.

3.                 Make mathematical connections to the other disciplines.

6.                Course Requirements: Bring to every class

1.       Pencil with eraser (NO PENS)

2.     Textbook

3.     Notebook or 3 ring binder with paper for notes

 

7.    Attendance Policy:

To comply with Virginia State Law, students are expected to attend school every day and to be on time unless there is illness or death in the immediate family.

 

8.    Evaluation

Homework              10%

Tests                     50%

Classwork              15%

Quizzes                 25%

 

¨      Homework will be assigned daily and checked periodically. (This is an effort grade, show all necessary work.) Late assignments will not be accepted. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask for and complete all make-up work. If make-up work is not completed, a zero will result.

¨      Projects will be counted as a classwork, quiz, or test grade. The category will be announced for each project.

¨      Classwork will be collected and graded on a random basis.

¨      Most tests will not have retake options. When there is a retake option, the test will be given after school with a maximum score of 80 allowed. All quizzes and tests MUST be done in pencil.

¨      No Food or Drinks allowed in class.

¨      Graphing calculators (TI-83) will be provided for student use in class as needed. Use of calculators on quizzes, tests, and exams may be limited.

¨      I will be available for extra help Tuesday through Thursday after school from 1:50-2:30. Please let me know if you plan to come in so that I can let you know if I have any other commitments.
