Parking

Parking at York High School is a privilege and not a right. This privilege is extended to some students because of the academic program in which they are involved. Students in work programs, in mentorships and practicums, with medical excuses, or special permission of the Principal have permission by permit to have vehicles on school property. Others will have the privilege of parking on school property by virtue of their senior classification.

Students who do not have permits to park but who have an emergency that requires them to drive to school should call the attendance office. These emergency parking permits are issued on a day-to-day basis.

School Parking Regulations
In accordance with School Board Policy, the rules and regulations for student parking have been established by the Principal of York High School. The parking regulations are designed to minimize disruption and to provide a safe and secure environment for students. They are not meant to be a burden on anyone; however, all students are expected to drive in an appropriate manner. In instances where an offense constitutes a violation of the law, law enforcement officials may be called.

Students having alcohol, tobacco, or drugs/drug paraphernalia on school grounds will have their parking privilege revoked for the year.

Referrals for any discipline infraction may result in a loss of parking privileges.

Any conduct that is disruptive to the normal operation of the school or that is classified as a violation of the law may result in loss of student parking privileges.

Parking privileges will be suspended for unexcused tardies to school:

4th unexcused tardy = 1 week loss of parking

5th unexcused tardy = 3 week loss of parking

6th unexcused tardy = loss of parking for remainder of semester

  • Without a displayed permit, you cannot park! Permits must be permanently attached to the driver’s side rear window.
  • Do not lend your permit to others.
  • Do not drive recklessly in the parking lot or over 5 mph.
  • Park in assigned space. If someone else is in your space, park in the range and tell the attendance office your name, your parking space number, and the license number of the car parked in your space.
  • Do not go out to the parking lot during the school day without administrative permission.
  • Do not leave school grounds without administrative permission.
  • Do not pull out into the line of buses as they leave.
  • Keep the parking lot clean. Do not litter.
  • The school is not liable for damage or loss due to vandalism, theft, etc., while cars are parked on school grounds. All vehicles must be locked!
  • All vehicles are subject to search if there is a reasonable ground to suspect a school policy is being violated

Parking decals are normally sold prior to the start of school.  Once school starts, decals are available in the Attendance office on a first-come, first-served basis. In order for your application to be processed, you must have a parent signature on your application and show your driver’s license. Parking Application

Fees
Parking Fees are $100 per year—ninety-five percent of which is remitted to the Director of Finance at the School Board Office. Students who do not pay the full amount in September will not be guaranteed a space for the second semester. Only one parking permit will be issued per family.
