Testing

Spring 2008 - SOL Testing Information

In response to feedback received from schools and in an effort to create an optimal testing environment, the YCSD has decided to run a revised EOC SOL test schedule at the high schools this spring. The test window for high schools will be May 14 23, 2008.

All EOC SOL tests will be taken online, which should increase the likelihood of student results being returned prior to exam week and the end of school. Because schools will need to run multiple test sessions using all available hard-wired computers, some of the days in the test window will have alternate schedules for students.

On May 19 - 21, 2008, a staggered schedule will be run for students. Students will only report to school if they have an AP Test, IB Test, SOL test or attend New Horizons/Governor’s School. This revised schedule will enable all licensed staff to be available for proctoring and monitoring test sessions. By eliminating student attendance on days when they have no tests, teachers will not have the frustration of classes moving at different rates due to extended/compressed instructional periods or student absences due to testing.

There will be 4 SOL test sessions each day, and lunch will be available. Transportation will run two complete bus runs for each high school to reduce students in the building to test takers. Mrs. Brindle, Assessment and Compliance Coordinator, will generate a letter for each student that lists the dates, times and tests to be taken by the student. The letter will also indicate any days the student is excused from attending school and the alternate bus schedule.
