French National Honors Society

York High School

The French National Honor Society is a national organization that recognizes the achievements of students studying the French language and tries to place them within reach of a more interactive type of learning through meetings after school, field trips,  in-house tutoring  and community service hours (6 hrs a year).

The French Honor Society is sponsored by York High School and La Societé Honoraire de Français (SHF). The Society promotes the French language and the Francophone culture through activities such as the FNHS Induction and National French Week (la Semaine Nationale du Français), which takes place in November. FNHS members also work closely with the French Club.

Besides the benefit of membership, the student can run for office in the organization. Also, the student takes on the responsibility of a tutor, which by doing so is rewarded with community service time.

Membership for the French National Honors  Society is open to current French  III, IV, IB 11 and IB 12 students in "good standing" (3.5 average or better in French & 3.295 GPA ). Once inducted, it is the responsibility of the student to maintain a B average through the year. Graduating students who are currently in the French Honor Society and are enrolled in and successfully complete a French class their graduating year will have the honor noted on the Graduation program and may purchase blue-white-and-red Honor cords to wear at the Graduation ceremony. Members receive certificates and pins at year's end
