Music notes
Kindergarteners are working hard on fast and slow! They’re probably working harder on slow than on fast. Fast comes pretty easily to them. We are also exploring speaking voiced and singing voices, so if you catch them in the bathroom singing at the top of their lungs, they’re only trying out the acoustics. Be gentle.
First grade is busy with percussion instruments. We are putting them into three catagories: Those you shake; those you rub; and those that you tap. We are also discussing vibration, so use that word whenever you can. Congratulations to Mrs. Beers’ class for being so well behaved that they received their second fun day in music. Great job!
In second grade we have discovered the wonder and mystery of the auto harp. Your students are playing chords to accompany their classmates. We played a lullabye last week, and this week, we tackled a Zulu leaving song. We are working hard for our PTA presentation next week.
Our violins are twinkling in grade three. We are finishing up Twinkle Twinkle, and eagerly look forward to reading new notes. Well, it’s going to happen, whether we are eagerly looking forward to it or not. Our musicianship has improved by leaps and bounds.
Recorders rock! The fourth grade has embraced the recorder with gusto. Some students have already tested for their brown belts, and some are ready for black belt testing. If you pass by the music room, you may hear Go Tell Aunt Rhody, or Ode to Joy. We are working hard on our PTA presentation as well.
This week, the fifth grade will finish their theme and variations. It was a long, uphill hike, but the pieces are finally coming together. Your students have been working for weeks to complete these pieces. Look for them to come home soon.
After an AMAZING countywide festival, the Singing Musketeers, aka the fifth grade chorus, has been relaxing, along with working on several pieces for the upcoming PTA cultural arts night. They look forward to entertaining you. Join us Tuesday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m.

It is only by introducing the young to great literature, drama and
music, and to the excitement of great science that we open to them the possibilities that
lie within the human spirit -- enable them to see visions and dream dreams.
