Art is important to a child because :

·          it helps them to grow creatively, aesthetically, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually 

·         it develops their capacities to weigh meanings and make evaluations and judgments

·         it gives students a window onto the rich and interesting world around them

·         it teaches them about their own history and culture, as well as those of other people

·         it develops and increases creativity, problem solving, decision-making skills, higher order thinking skills and their imagination  

·         it provides means of communication and self-expression

·         it increases self-understanding

·         it strengthens self-concepts and confidence

·         it serves as an emotional release

·         it provides decision-making opportunities

·         it develops appreciation for the individuality of others

·         it improves physical coordination and manipulation skills

·       it helps students  to be well rounded, balanced people

it helps students to understand that through experimentation comes learning

·         it helps students to develop work habits and a sense of responsibility

·         it helps the adult in understanding and helping the child

·         it heightens aesthetic awareness and sensitivity

·         it generates joy
