2008 - 2009 Title I Services
Grade 1 Reading Recovery (BMES, MES, TES only):
- Provided by reading specialist
- 1:1 for approximately 20 weeks
- Multisensory approach
- Magnetic letters (letters, sounds, chunks/word families)
- Reading -- familiar & new texts
- Writing
- Cut-up sentences
- Provided by highly qualified staff – paraeducator (works w/reading specialist) or Title I teacher
- Small group setting – average of 3 students/group
- Yearlong program (depending on student progress/needs)
- Multisensory approach
- Based on Orton-Gillingham approach
- Program components vary slightly depending on students’ level
- Alphabetical order
- Dictation (sounds, words, sentences)
- Sound drills
- Echo/find (letters, words)
- Letter formation
- Letter
- Keyword-sound
- Trick words
- Word of the day
