Festival Chorus:
Every January,  members of the Fifth Grade Chorus audition for the opportunity to represent Tabb Elementary in a select honors group at the York County Festival Chorus at the end of March.  They join with students from all over York County to perform a special program of challenging (and extremely fun!) music.

 Chorus Notes

Greetings!

Thank you for a successful start to our 2007-2008 Fifth Grade Chorus!  This year’s group possesses a good bit of natural talent, and I know that through hard work, dedication, and a willingness to explore and enjoy the world of music, we will aspire to the high standards that Tabb Elementary strives to embody.  If you received this message via email, THANK YOU for returning your signed contract/information sheet!   In an effort to enhance communication between the Music Room and home, I am going to try to send announcements and bulletins by email in addition to giving students paper copies, when possible (& practical).

In this bulletin I will try to answer a few “frequently asked questions:”

Is there a required uniform/dress code for performances?

YES.  Students should wear a white dress shirt/blouse.  Short sleeves are fine.  They’re actually a bit more comfortable and less trouble to iron…In addition to the white tops, students need to wear blue dress pants or a skirt that is at least knee length.  Jeans are not acceptable.  I also ask that our singers wear dress shoes or “dressy casual” shoes, when possible, though I realize that this may not be feasible for every family.  Please wear athletic shoes only as a last resort.  If you have any special concerns, please feel free to contact me.

The York County Wal-Mart (867-8004) and the Denbigh Target (882-8700) stores currently have both the pants and shirts in stock.  Super-K has the pants, but only stocks dress shirts around Christmastime.  You may also try Burlington coat Factory, Marshall's or T.J. Maxx.  Their prices are usually quite reasonable.

For the December concert, I also encourage students to add their own festive touches to their outfit (Santa hats, red or green scarves, etc.).  Be creative and have fun!

What are the dates of the dress rehearsals and performances?

There will also be a performance sometime around the middle of March in honor of “Music in our Schools Month.”  I will give you more detailed information as soon as the schedule for that month “firms up.”  We will very likely stick with the Dress Rehearsal on a Monday, followed by the two performances the next day (Tuesday), the same way we’re handling the December shows.  We normally try to perform in conjunction with PTA meetings to avoid having you come out in the evening more than is necessary.

Will we rehearse if Chorus falls on an early dismissal day?

NO.  On those days, go home and enjoy your time off!

Do we still rehearse if Mr. T is absent on a Chorus day?

NO, unless told otherwise in advance.  In the rare event that I am required to be absent from school on a Thursday, we will not rehearse unless I specifically tell you that we will.  Just as you agreed to notify me in advance if you need to miss a rehearsal, I will extend you the same courtesy whenever possible.  If I cannot give you prior notice, I will arrange for the office staff to announce the cancellation as far in advance as possible (probably that morning, in case of an emergency).

What time do I need to pick my child up from Chorus practice?

We always endeavor to end Chorus rehearsal promptly at 4:15, though we may occasionally go over by a minute or two.  I realize that we live in busy days, and our schedules dictate most of our plans for us.  In that regard, I agree to respect your time by beginning and ending rehearsals on time.  In the spirit of cooperation, I respectfully ask that you return the courtesy.  Please arrange for your child to be picked up at 4:15.  It is embarrassing for a child when his/her ride is late, and it is inconvenient for those staff members (myself included) who must stay extra time to ensure your child’s safe return to you.  Thanks for your help with this!

I think that’s enough for now…I will continue to distribute information as it becomes available to me.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or call.  Thank you for your support—TOGETHER EVERYONE SUCCEEDS!!!

Musically yours,
