Fourth Grade

Tabb Elementary
September 2008

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the fourth grade.  To help our classes run smoothly, we will explain some classroom procedures.  We hope you find this information helpful.

HOUSEKEEPING

ABSENCES/TARDIES: Notes for absences or tardies are to be turned in to the office by the classroom teachers daily.  If your students should be absent or tardy, please send a note with them to school.

IMPORTANT PAPERS: Please return all papers in which you need to sign as soon as possible.  This will help us keep our files up to date.

PTA:  PTA membership is optional.  You do not have to volunteer to be a member of the TES PTA.  Please help our class obtain 100% PTA membership this year by joining today!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

HANDS-ON-SCIENCE:  Once a month fourth graders participate in a hands on science program.  This cannot be done without parent volunteers.  Please consider donating your time for this program.  Volunteers receive training one day and come in the following day / week to work with our students.  You do not have to be science minded – everything is explained to you.  These dates are set in advance to allow for planning.  This is a very rewarding experience.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping with this program.

CLASSROOM / HOMEWORK PROCEDURES

RESOURCES:  Our classes will have resource daily.

Your child needs to wear appropriate shoes everyday.
EXTEND for Tabb Elementary has not yet been established for 2008-2009.

LUNCH: Lunch times have not yet been established for the 2008-2009 school year.

LUNCH MONEY: Students may deposit money into their lunch account. LUNCH ACCOUNT NUMBERS ARE IN STUDENT AGENDAS. Please include your student’s account number on your check or envelope.

BREAKFAST MONEY: Breakfast will be served in the classroom each morning.  If you want your child to eat at school, please put money into their account or send the money with them each morning.  They must be finished eating at 8:55 because our resource class begins at this time.
Lunch - $1.90         Breakfast - $ .95

AGENDAS/HOMEWORK: Each student at Tabb is provided one agenda each year by the PTA.  In our class, students copy their homework in their agenda.  Homework should take between 30 – 45 minutes a night.  Homework is explained in class as it is assigned, so students understand the assignment.

TIMED-TESTS: It is essential that fourth grade students know their multiplication facts – (1 – 12).  These facts will be used throughout the fourth grade curriculum.  Timed multiplication tests will be given regularly to help students keep these facts sharp. If your student has forgotten some of their facts, please help them brush up.

BINDERS:  Being organized is a lifeskill that will help your child throughout their life.  At Tabb, all fourth grade students use a binder to organize their work.  Students are to keep their work in the appropriate sections of their binder at all times.  Please help your student learn and use this skill.

TAKE-HOME FOLDERS: Students will bring home graded assignments each Friday in a “Take Home” folder.  Please review the work with your child, sign the folder, and return the empty folder with your student the following day.  PLEASE LOOK FOR THIS FOLDER EACH WEEK. This is a good time to review skills with your child.

WEBSITE:  Please visit the TES website. You will find spelling words, vocabulary and the reading skill for each week on the fourth grade webpage.  Log on to the TES website at http://yorkcountyschools.org/tes/  and  http://www.4tabb.com.

We hope this letter has been helpful.  Please feel free to contact us about any concerns you may have.  You may call Tabb Elementary at 898-0372 or send a note with your child.  We know that together we will have a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

The Fourth Grade Teachers
