Welcome to the Fifth Grade
Finally!

I am a Fifth Grader....Poems

We anticipate an exciting year with many positive learning experiences that will support the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL).  With your support and through direct communication between home and school, we feel that this can be a successful year.  If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to contact us.  You may call the school at 898-0372, and we will return your call as soon as possible. You can also contact us through e-mail at the Tabb Elementary website.

To help monitor your child’s progress, we will send a weekly folder of graded work in each content area.  Please look for the Progress Report or note from us every Friday.  Sign the report or note and return it to us on Monday, so that we will be sure that you have received it.  This is our primary method of keeping you informed of your child’s progress, work habits, and behavior on a weekly basis.

HOMEWORK:

Students will be responsible for copying homework assignments in their agendas daily.

Your child will have homework Monday through Thursday night.  Please refer to the Student Handbook for information concerning the York County homework policy. If a student is missing 3 or more assignments a week, we will contact you to let you know.

Supplementary reading is an important part of our school program.  We expect each child to read books on their reading level at least 20 minutes a night at home. Reading projects will be assigned throughout the year.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and comfortable learning environment for all of our students.  Classroom expectations are as follows:

Keep your hands, feet, objects, and negative comments to yourself.

Listen attentively and follow all directions the first time given.

Maintain appropriate language, attitude, and manners.

Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking during instruction.

Work silently and independently on tests; work cooperatively, purposefully, and with self-control during all other activities.

Please refer to the York County Student Handbook for appropriate dress.  Each child must wear gym shoes for Physical Education classes and recess daily.  Everyone must participate in P.E. class unless a note from home or a physician stating the reason that the student be excused.
