WHAT IS THE SPELL-A-THON?

The Spell-A-Thon is a special classroom test designed to raise money for Tabb Elementary.  It is the PTA’s main fundraiser and 100% of the money goes towards the school.  The test is given in conjunction with the students weekly spelling test.  Every student is given the opportunity to collect sponsors and win prizes.  The teachers will use this test as their weekly spelling grade.  The money raised will benefit ALL students this school year.  Without this fundraiser, the PTA would not be able to purchase new items for the school or continue providing financial support to many of the programs that students enjoy. 

HOW DOES THE SPELL-A-THON WORK?

Each student is given a SPONSOR SHEET, envelope, and a list of spelling words to study. Sponsors are asked to pledge money for each word that the student spells correctly on the test.  Sponsors can either pledge an amount per word

(10¢, 25¢, $1.00 etc.), or they can pledge a flat donation. Students will be eligible for prizes based on the amount of money they collect.  We have some great prizes parents may use as an incentive for their children to collect sponsors.

We ask that you do not let your child go door-to-door.  

Instead, encourage your child to seek pledges from grandparents, family members and friends. ALL students will take the test and receive a participation prize regardless of whether they collected sponsors.  Any class with 100% participation will receive a slushy party.  Even $1 counts as participation! Be sure to put the student's full name, teacher's name, and a parent's signature for permission to participate on the sponsor sheet.

Spell -A - Thon Dates

October 10– Packets sent home, students begin studying and collecting sponsors.

October 19- Return pledge sheets to school with pledges filled out. (Some teachers may give a portion of the test today)

October 26- SPELL-A-THON TEST DAY! Results and collection envelopes are sent home to begin collecting money.

November 9- Donations and Sponsor Envelopes due. 

November 15– Limo ride with Mrs. Parr, Mrs. Goodwin, and top teacher to Cold Stone Creamery and Toys-R-Us.  Each student will have a $50 gift card to spend.

November 16- Prizes sent home, classroom parties, GRAND PRIZE and drawing winners announced.    

The following are some examples of how the money raised by the Spell-a-thon will be used:

To purchase Agendas and communication folders for every student. 

Reimburse every Teacher $100 & Para-educators $50 for out-of-pocket expenses.

Provide $500 per grade level to enrich student education.

Provide NO ADDITIONAL COST family nights and events at the school. 

Provide $250 each for the art teacher, music teacher, PE teacher, cafeteria, and library staff to supplement their programs.

Provide funding for Teacher and Staff appreciation events.

Provide $600 for Field Trip support.

Fund $3000 for enhanced Cultural Arts Programs and assemblies.

 

This year, we are again striving for 100% PARTICIPATION in the Spell-A-Thon

Any dollar amount counts! This is a big goal and it has never been reached before!

Prize package also includes a gift basket of snacks and drinks and a $25 gift card from WaWa for gas.

Top student in each grade:

Stretch Limousine Ride with Mrs. Parr, Mrs. Goodwin, and the top teacher to COLD STONE CREAMERY for ICE CREAM and then to TOYS ‘R US to shop with a $50 GIFT CARD!!!

Top class in each grade level:
Cool Treat Celebration.  Look for the Paw Prints to see which classes have had 100% of their students return pledges.  Remember, any dollar amount counts towards
