A
note from the
Principals
Dear
Parents/Guardians,
Cheryl Parr &
Jennifer GoodwinAs we enter the last quarter of the year, we begin to focus on putting together all of the information we have learned throughout the year. We think about how all of it fits together, almost like a puzzle. We can think of the parts of the Tabb Elementary community like that - how each piece fits together is very important. Without the involvement of great teachers and staff, supportive parents, and interested students, something would be missing! Thank you for the involvement you have shown so far this year to make what we do at school so much easier. For the last marking period, please pay close attention to the material that comes home with your student. Review information and contact your child's teacher if you have questions about what you see. Request a conference if you feel one is necessary. End of the year testing is coming soon in all grades and spending even short periods of time looking over the material with your child will make a difference. Thank you for your continued interest and support. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Standards of Learning Assessments Students
in Grades 3-5 will take the
SOL assessments during the dates of May 28-June 6. Please try to
avoid
making appointments on these days or have your student miss school
during this time. Thanks in advance for your support. We know our
students will do a great job "showing what they know!"

changes in immunization requirements for the upcoming
school year. If your child has not received a second dose of
varicella
yet, you may choose to ask your health care provider about the
benefits. A second dose is recommended, but not required.
For parents of rising 6th graders: a booster dose of pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap) is required for students entering the sixth grade, unless the student has had a tetanus-containing vaccine within the last five years. There is no grace period for compliance (§32.1-46, subdivision 3, of the Code). Legislation requiring the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine for female students entering the sixth grade will go into effect on October 1, 2008. The first dose shall be administered before the child enters sixth grade (§32.1-46, subdivision 12 of the Code). Since the effective date occurs after the 2008-09 school year begins the vaccine will not be required for school entry until the 2009-10 school year. If you have any questions please call 867-7461. much fun!
The Read Across America
Challenge, to honor Dr. Seuss’ 104th birthday, was an exciting time at
TES. The York Education Association challenged all schools to
accumulate 110 volunteer readers. To accomplish this goal, TES had a
plan to “Team up and
Read Across America.” Three teams traveled across the United States
and back, and each page read was a mile traveled. Many parents came to
school to read in a classroom and guests including school board members
and the superintendent of schools, Dr. Staples, supported this effort.Every student and teacher received a black and orange stove pipe hat (thanks to your donations to offset costs) and students and teachers dressed as their favorite Seuss character. At the end of school on March 2, the entire school “Dropped Everything and Read.” Great prizes were awarded to students who won the Cafeteria Challenge “Write Across America.” Hats and prizes were made possible by donations from Kohls and the PTA. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The following businesses and

Letter
from the
PTA President
Together Everyone Succeeds! The goal of the PTA Executive Board this year has been to carefully evaluate the way we spend all monies and focus mainly on enhancing education and limit fundraising. With the exception of the carnival, all family night events have been at no additional cost to parents. We have had positive feedback concerning many of the new events we introduced this year including The Magic of Nutrition, Hands on Science Night, and Pancakes for Pops. Finally, the PTA initiative of obtaining a $3,500 Lowes Toolbox Grant and additional PTA funding support will allow our school to develop an outside classroom and Junior Master Gardener Program. Our new Learning Garden will truly be a wonderful addition and fun alternative to allow students to “grow.” If you have suggestions, feedback, or would like to find a way to get more involved with the PTA next year, please give me a call or email. We will be working on the lineup for the PTA Executive Board for the 2008-09 school year. Positions are available, and if you feel this is your calling, please let us know. We would be thrilled to see some new faces with fresh ideas come on board! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Spring Carnival
Friday, April 18 Don’t miss this fun event at TES on Friday, April 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. Our carnival will be held mainly outside with a huge blowup slide, moon bounce, and baseball speed pitch. Experience exciting NEW carnival games, craft make-and-takes, a cake walk, dancing with a DJ, Karaoke, face painting, temporary tattoos, raffle tables and more! Great carnival food will be available including hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy, SnowZone snow cones and Dominos pizza. Wristbands are $10 per child (3 and under are free) and all proceeds will directly support educational enhancement and enrichment at Tabb Elementary. Interested in helping? Beginning later that morning and continuing throughout the day, as well as on May 20 and 22, each class will visit the Ocean in Motion aquarium truck and a touch tank station that will be set up in a classroom. The aquarium staff will cover a wide variety of topics relating to our science SOLs, and everything should tie in very nicely with our PTA "Down by the Bay" night on May 20. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Down by the Bay Night ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Peninsula PTA Volunteer of the Year

"The Science Guy" since he is our Hands On Science Coordinator.

please remember that you are required to park and walk your child into
the building to sign him/her into school. Even if you are only late by
a minute or two, please refrain from allowing your child to cross at
the crosswalk by him or herself. We have had several incidents of
students crossing by themselves from the parking lot and other cars
pulling into the bus lane at the same time. We appreciate your
support in this safety matter.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks
for becoming a PTA member this year
Because of the willingness and
commitment of
so many staff, teachers and parents at TES to become PTA members, Tabb
Elementary PTA recently received a Certificate of Excellence from the
Peninsula
District PTA for PTA membership of over 81%. This is an honor that only
5 local
schools received. PTA membership is only one of the ways to measure
parental
involvement in the school. Thanks again for your support!
