US and World Studies is designed to help the 8th grade students refresh their minds on information from the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade curriculum.  It prepares the student for the 8th grade history SOL test at the end of the school year.  This course will use maps and pictures to analyze the physical and human landscapes of the world.  Students will locate, identify and name major  countries, regions, rivers, mountains and bodies of water.  Students will use SOL packets to study the history of the following areas:
  • Pre-European Native America
  • Exploration, Colonization and Independence
  • Westward Expansion
  • Civil War
  • Becoming a World Nation
  • The Depression Era
  • World War I 
  • World War II
  • Cold War
  • Civil Rights and the Present
  • US Government/Federalism and Citizenship
  • Economics
  • Globalism
