POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
2008-2009
I. ATTIRE
a. All students are required to wear appropriate gym attire in the appropriate manner.

b. All students are required to wear non-marking athletic shoes. All shoes should be
laced tightly during class. It is recommended that students not use the same shoes for
class that are worn to school.
c. All students are required to wear athletic socks.
d. If gym attire is lost or misplaced, it must be replaced as soon as possible with the
appropriate gym attire.
e. Do not buy or bring expensive gym attire.
f. Valuables and large amounts of money should not be kept in the locker room, nor
brought to gym class. This means expensive jewelry, watches, wallets or money.
Do not bring any bookbags and bulky coats/starter jackets to the locker room or gym
area. In fact, there is no need to bring expensive items to school.
g. All
personal belongings must be locked up in your assigned lockers. It is your
responsibility to make sure nothing is
left unsecured.
h. No jewelry/body piercing or watches are to be worn during gym class. Small stud
earrings may be permissible with approval of the teacher. No hoops or dangling
earrings will be allowed.
I. On the third (3rd) day of a student’s unexcused non-dress from a block class, the
student will fail the class for the nine weeks. Six (6) unexcused non-dress for 7th
period class.
j. If a student is not properly attired, they will not be allowed to participate in any
activities that day.
II. CLASS PROCEDURES
a. The student must be fully attired within eight (8) minutes after the tardy bell. After
getting dressed all students will report to their proper squad and remain seated on the
gym floor for roll call and further instructions.
b. At the end of class students are to change into their school clothes and report to the
assigned area.
c. Everyone is assigned
a lock and locker. Do not switch locks
or lockers. Use only
your assigned locker. The student is required to lock all
possessions in a locker
while participating in physical
education. Keep your lockers locked!
d. If the student loose their lock, they will have to pay to replace it. The cost is five (5)
dollars and is to be paid in the main office.
e. The student is required to stay in the assigned teaching area at all times. This means
no wandering around to other teaching areas or classes. If a student is not dressed,
(unexcused or excused) they must stay with their teacher all period.
f. No food, candy, gum or drinks are allowed in the locker room, playing fields or gyms
during the school day.
g. Students are encouraged to shower after every activity period.
h. Do not bring any basketballs, footballs, soccer balls or any additional equipment to
the gym at any time.
i. Mistreatment of school equipment is not allowed. Hanging on/from either the
basketball hoops, rims, nets, poles or football/soccer goalpost or bars is a serious
safety hazard to you and other students and will result in possible disciplinary action.
picking up and or throwing of rocks while outside will not be tolerated. Any student
Caught throwing objects will be subject to disciplinary action.
j. The standing homework assignment for all
Physical Education classes is to:
1. stretch to increase flexibility
2. push-ups to increase upper body strength
3. sit-ups to increase abdominal strength
4. running to increase cardiovascular endurance
You
will be tested on all these aspects throughout the year
III. CONSEQUENCES
a. Warn students.
b. Phone call home to parents or written notice sent home.
c. Notify administration with a written infraction notice.
IV. ILLNESS
** a. The student will be excused from activity for two (2) consecutive block PE classes or
three (3)
consecutive 7th period classes
upon presentation of a daily note from the
parent stating
what the problem is to the school nurse before the start of the
school day.
** b. If the illness is longer than two block days or three 7th period days, a physician’s note
is required. This
note should state a return activity date and must be submitted to
the school nurse
before the start of the school day.
** c. Students with limited activity must have a letter from a physician stating
what
the problem is and what activities the student can participate in. The student will
be required to dress out unless excused by the school nurse.
** d. Student athletes and cheerleaders must
dress out and participate on practice and
game days if they are planning to participate in practice
and/or games. Failure
to dress out and participate results in non-participation in
the game or activity
for that day.
V. EVALUATION
a. Participation 40%
b. Skills tests 40%
c. Written tests 20%
VI. EXTRA CREDIT
a. The extra credit sessions will be available after school the 6th and 7th weeks of each
quarter. Each student may attend up to two sessions for a grade of .5 per session
which will be added to their final quarter grade.
Students must make arrangements with their teacher prior to attending and report
dressed out and on time to the supervising teacher.
b. Students who have more than two unexcused dress cuts or two non-participation
grades in their own class, or eight or more unexcused absences from school may not use these extra credit sessions. This time will not be used to retest students on skills test.
c. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange for extra credit sessions with their
teacher.
