I
joined the faculty
of Grafton High
School in 2001. Since then I have taught 10th and 12th grade English
and Public Speaking. The best times of my tenure at GHS have come when
I am working with the students on special activities and projects. I
have been Junior/Senior Class Sponsor since 2003 and have coached
debate and forensics since 2002. I graduated from Texas Tech University
(
Go Red Raiders!) with a
degree in Advertising and Public Relations. After working in those
fields for two years, I returned to school and my true calling:
teaching. My husband Tom is a retired military officer/fighter pilot
who
extended my horizons from Texas to New York and to Maryland before we
arrived in Yorktown. In each of these locations I expanded my
educational experience at both the secondary and college levels. I have
three sons: Nat, who is a graduate of
Christopher Newport University and a referee with the USA Hockey
Referee Development Program; Geoff, who is a graduate of Grafton and
currently plays Junior Hockey with the Hudson Valley Eagles in Troy,
N.Y.; and Nick, who is a senior at York High School.
I find my inspiration for teaching in my parents,
who are great educator role models. My father taught, coached, and
administered in several Texas schools before he retired and re-found
himself in textbook sales. My mother continues to teach and coach
students to this day -- even after 53 years!
My goal is for all my students to graduate from
Grafton High School with the language skills necessary to succeed in
all of their future endeavors.
