English 12 British Literature

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course presents the cultural development of British Literature and literature of other cultures stressing major literary forms, themes, and techniques in an interdisciplinary approach. The student will develop expository and technical writings. Comprehensive oral presentation and research projects will reflect organizational skills, audience awareness, and appropriate vocabulary/grammar.

1^st Quarter

• Anglo-Saxon & Medieval Literature including Beowulf & Arthurian Legends

2^nd Quarter

• Literary Comparison Essay
• Personal Journals

• Shakespeare – Macbeth

3^rd Quarter

• Creative Writing
• Poetry Projects
• Outside Reading Project – Action/Adventure
• Gulliver’s Travels
• Frankenstein
• Memory Work

4^th Quarter

• Retrospective Essays/Description
• Public Speaking
• British Theater
• Outside Reading Journal – Plays
• Memory Work
