All
student
work is evaluated by rubrics presented in class for each assignment.
Writing
assignments are evaluated using the Virginia SOL rubric unless stated
otherwise
on the assignment.
Quarter
grades
are determined by the total number of points a student accumulates in a
quarter
divided by the total number of points possible for the quarter.
**Students
should watch for opportunities to earn more points on bonus assignments
STUDENTS
ARE ENCOURAGED TO KEEP A RECORD OF THEIR GRADES IN THEIR
NOTEBOOK IN ORDER TO VERIFY POINTS AT THE END OF EACH QUARTER.
Students
are
expected to be familiar with the GHS policies regarding attendance,
tardiness,
and make-up work as outlined in the Student Handbook. THIS IS
ESPECIALLY
IMPORTANT FOR SENIORS!!! Poor attendance can affect your exam exemption
status.
It
is the
students’ responsibility to find out what notes and assignments
were missed
when they are absent. Get notes, assignments, journal topics, etc.,
from a
classmate. Check with the teacher for any handouts you may have missed.
Assignments
that are due when a student is absent are due when the student returns
to the
class. Students who are absent prior to an announced test or assignment
should
return to class prepared to test or present.
Homework
is
due at the beginning of the class period for which it was assigned.
Late
homework is only accepted in the case of an excused absence or tardy
when it is
submitted when the student returns to class. Otherwise, late homework
will not
be accepted.
Major
assignments
that are received after the date they are due (except in the case of an
excused
absence or tardy) will receive a point penalty for each day the
assignment is
late. The penalty will be based on the value of the assignment.
**NOTE**
Make-up work is not accepted in the case of unexcused tardies
and absences.
