This year is
my ninth at Grafton High School. My current teaching assignment
is the teaching of Advanced English 10, Mass Media and Advanced
Placement English 12. I also serve as English department chairperson
and adviser of the school newspaper,
The
Ship's Log.
My teaching experience in York County started in
1987 at Bruton High, and I have also taught in central Virginia,
Florida and Pennsylvania. School publications have been an area of
interest for me, and I have served as adviser of school newspapers,
literary magazines and yearbooks. The publications have won VHSL first
place and trophy awards.
A graduate of Indiana University of
Pennsylvania, I have completed graduate work in communications at
Shippensburg (PA) University. Mu summer studies have included the
Eastern Virginia Writing Project at the College of William and Mary as
well as summer institutes focusing on China, India, Japan at the
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This year, I have been honored as the
2007 York County Teacher of the Year.
I am an active member of the York Education
Association as well as the NEA and VEA, the NCTE (National Council of
Teachers of English), VAJTA (Virginia Association of Journalism
Teachers) and the JEA (Journalism Education Association).
