Criteria: Men and Women student-athletes who have at least a 2.75 GPA & Participate in at least one school sport.

How much: State honorees- $1,000K & trip to DC; National honorees- up to $5K

Criteria: Open to any graduating senior planning to attend college. Elibility is NOT based on GPA or financial need.

Who: Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
What: Achievement based scholarships recognizing stand-out senior students
How much: 50- @ $20,000; 200- @$10,000
Criteria: Demonstrated leadership in school, commitment to community, academic achievement, and part-time employment. Student must carry a minimum of a 3.0 at the end of his/her junior year.
Deadline: October 31, 2008(Must be completed electronically)

Who: 2009 Horatio Alger Scholarship
What: Financial assistance to those demonstrating integrity, perseverance, strength of character, and a desire to contribute to society.
How much: Range in value from $1,000- $20,000
Criteria: GPA of 2.0, school involvement, US citizen, and financial need is imperative. (Less than $50K adjusted gross income per family)
Deadline: October 30, 2008 (Must be completed elctronically)

Who: University of Virginia
What: Jefferson Scholar Competition
How much: Full tuition
Criteria: Highly selective competition for students in top of class, very high SATs and community/ school involvement.
Deadline: Essay due to guidance counselor by Oct. 19, 2007.(see counselor for essay topic) An awards committee will select only one GHS student from these submissions to compete in this national competition.

Who:
Lee-Jackson Scholarship
What:
Scholarships will be awarded to juniors and seniors submitting the best essays on the career, character, or some other aspect of the life of either General Lee or General Jackson, or both.
How much:
In each of Virginia’s eight regions, three students will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and one of the three students will receive an additional $1,000 bonus scholarship for the best essay in the region. In addition, a bonus scholarship of $8,000 will be awarded for the best essay statewide.
Criteria:
Any junior or senior in a Virginia public or private high school or home school may apply. The student should not have received a Lee-Jackson scholarship in the past and must be a resident of Virginia who plans to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the United States as a full-time student. Students who intend to enroll in a community college must plan to enroll in the college transfer program of the community college. The contestant should demonstrate the natural ability to succeed in college and have a sincere desire to attend. Financial need is not a requirement.
Deadline:
The deadline for students to submit applications and essays to their principals is January 11, 2008.  Each high school principal will choose the best two essays from his/her students and forward the chosen essays to Phyllis Milne, Ed.D., Associate Director of Curriculum and Student Achievement, by January 25, 2008.  Program information and the student application are located on the Lee Jackson web site at http://www.lee-jackson.org.

Who: Georgia Tech
What: President's Scholarship
How much: Up to full cost of education, additional funds to study abroad, and other enrichment activities
Criteria: Successful applicants typically have earned excellent grades in the most challenging courses and have demonstrated a strong work ethic, outstanding personal achievements, and leadership outside the classroom in a variety of activities.  There is no minimum GPA or test score requirements.  Factors such as financial need, gender, ethnicity, state of residence, legacy status, and intended major are not considered-the selection process is based completely on  merit
Deadline: There is no separate President's Scholarship application. Application to Georgia Tech for Freshman Admission must be postmarked by October 31, 2007. www.apply.gatech.edu

Who: Gardner-Webb University (Christian University in Boiling Springs, N.C.)
What: University Fellows Scholarship Competition
How much: Five full tuition, room, and board scholarhips, five full tuition scholarships, and two 80% of tuition scholarhips.
Criteria: Cum. GPA of 3.6 and higher, at least an 1130 (critical reading and math) on the SAT or a 24 composite score on the ACT.
Deadline: Any interested students should see Ms. Klein by October 10, 2007.

Who: William & Mary
What: 2007-2008 Murray Scholars Program
How much: Full Tuition, fees, room and board for Virginia residents.
Criteria: Students who rank in the top 1% of their class, score 1450 and above on the SAT (Critical Reading and Math) and take the most demanding curriculum available to them. Esays are required from nominated students.
Deadline: Interested students who meet the criteria should see Ms. Klein by October 26, 2007.  Three students can be nominated from Grafton HS.
