What:
Dept of  Education sponsored opportunity to provide financial assistance to worthy & needy VA high school seniors planning to attend college.

Scholarship Competition--one YC high school senior WILL win this award!!
How Much:
1-$1000 1-$500
Criteria:
Must be accepted by and atend a Virginia college (for $1000 scholarship) or vocational school (for $500 scholarship). Must have a GPA of at least a 2.5, extracurricular activities, community/ school service, financial need are all considered in award winner.

Who: VHSL and Allstate Insurance
What: Viginia High School League Achievement Award Scholarship
How much: 10-$1,000 (Categories include Outstanding Male Athlete, Outstanding Female Athlete, Acadmic Activity, & Courageous Achievement)
Criteria:
Min. GPA 3.0, must have previously won at least 1 varsity letter, involvement in other school sponsored activities, outside work, etc. 2 letters of recommendation, 500 word student essay, photograph.  Only ONE student can be nominated for EACH category from GHS.

What: Wachovia Citizenship Award
How much: 6- $1,000
Criteria:
Senior who participated in at least one VHSL activity, contributions to family, school, and community, good citizenship and sportsmanship, 2 letters of rec, essay.  Only One Male and One Female can be nominated from GHS.

Who: VHSL Scholastic Publications Advisory Committee
What: 2008 Col. Charles E. Savedge Scholarship
How much: $100 per year (up to $500)
Criteria:
Must be a graduatiing senior with a minimum of 2 years as a participant of GHS's publication staff (i.e. yearbook, newspaper, literary magazine).  Must demonstrate leadership, writing skills, design aptitude, creativity, organization, industry, teamwork, and character. One ONE student from GHS can be nominated.

Who: David Brian Bullock Memorial Scholarship
What: Only one nominee can be submitted from senior class. APPLY!
How Much: Undisclosed amount
Criteria: Scholastic Achievement, Community Service, Financial need, overall social and academic perfvormance

Who: Bayport Credit Union
What: Beard/Bennett Memorial Scholarships
How much: $6,000 ($1,500 for each year renewable for 4 years) must maintain a 3.0 GPA
Criteria:
Complete essay at least 500 words, no more than 650 words. "What, in your opinion, are the leading contributing factors in young people choosing not to be involved in the political process? What is your solution to involve more young people?"

Garland K. Keeling Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.
What: Keeling Scholarship
How Much: 1-$1,500 3-$1,000
Criteria: Must be graduating senior, rank in the top 25% of the class, must have recieved notification of acceptance from an accredited college of his/her choice on or before April 1, 2008, consideration given to character of student and financial need.
Deadline: Grafton High School can only nominate one senior.  Applications in the Guidance office.  Must be recieved by April 4, 2008


Who: Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
What: Marine Corps Scholarship
How much: ranging from $1,000-$10,000
Criteria: Must be son.daughter of active duty or reserve US Marine (see more information at www.mcsf.org) Maximum adjusted family gross income of $77,000 or less., minimum of 2.0GPA

Criteria: Must be African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students who are planing on studying cheical science.

What: 2009 VA Aviation Foundation Student Scholarship
How much: 2-$1,000 scholarships
Criteria: Seniors with a minimum 2.8 GPA who have applied to a school or academy with an accredited aviation-related program. Essay Required with application.
