Open mind
Notebook sections must be labeled on the divider tabs in this order:
Table of Contents. On the form provided, the first page on opening your notebook should be up to date with lesson dates, lesson titles, notebook page numbers, and homework assignments.
Notes: daily notes from class work, filed by date.
Your notes are your lifeline. Good notes will help you with homework, quizzes, tests, and future classes.
In general, if it's important enough for me to write it on the board, it's important enough for you to write in your notes. You may also add your own notes and explanations.
A short pencil is better than a long memory any time.
Begin each day's notes on a new page and head the page with the Lesson Title and date.
Neatness counts! Write clearly; include explanations, examples, and practice problems.
Worksheets, handouts, and in-class practice also go in this section - filed by day.
If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to make up the notes. Hand-copy the notes from another student you trust; photocopies are not acceptable.
Homework, filed by date.
Your homework is your second lifeline. Completely worked and corrected homework exercises make excellent study guides.
Work each day's homework problems on a separate page.
Place your name, date assigned, and the assignment number at the top-right of the page; list the textbook page number and individual problem numbers along the left margin as you work.
Neatness counts! Write clearly and include explanations, examples, and practice problems.
Include diagrams from the book so your work makes sense.
If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to make up the homework assignment. You can find the assignments from other students, the class Table of Contents, or the "Assignments" pages of the class web site.
See also these Notes and Homework Guidelines.
Daily Drills, filed by date. Same comments as Homework section. Dated, completed, corrected.
Quizzes and activities
Includes all graded activities except homework.
Correct all quizzes, tests, and other graded activities when they are returned to you. Use color to distinguish your corrections -- it will help you when you study.
Misc.
Examples: class procedures, calendars, SOL notes, etc.
Portions of notebooks may be graded periodically. Grades will be based on how well the notes appear to support learning and study. General elements on the grading rubric include:
| Completeness | Legibility | Format |
