Course Description: Personal finance and living is a course that offers a study of the fundamentals of algebra in preparation for students to take either Algebra Part 1 or Algebra 1 as their next course of study.  SOL’s from 6th,7th,and 8th grade math courses as well as some from Algebra 1 are covered in this course.  In addition to Mathematics Standards of Learning, Personal Living and Finance standards and applications are included in the Curriculum Guide for this course.

 

Course Textbook: Mathematics: Applications and Connections, Glencoe (1998)

 

Course Objectives: The objectives for this course are those stated in the York County Secondary Program of Studies.

Classroom Policies:

·         Be in your assigned seat and quiet with all necessary materials

(notebook, covered book, pencils) when the tardy bell rings.

·         Eating and drinking in the classroom will not be permitted.

·         Inappropriate or profane language, horseplay, or grooming will not be tolerated.

·         Be respectful of others.

 

Materials Needed:

        3-ringed binder

            loose-leaf paper

            pencils

 

Grading Policy: Students will be graded on their homework, classwork, quizzes, and tests.

           

50% Tests:     Tests will be administered at the end of each major unit of study and will be

                        announced.

 

30% Quizzes:  Quizzes will be given at least once a week and may be announced or 

                        may be given without notice.

 

20%   Classwork/Homework:  Homework is necessary to reinforce daily lessons.  Classwork may be done individually or in groups.
