for Challenge 1
To answer the question "How
do you see?" and tie together
what has been learned over the past few days.
Create a poster or brochure or that explains the elements
behind human vision. Your finished product will include:
- Pertinent anatomy of the
eye including diagrams, labels
and description of function. For review see: http://science.howstuffworks.com/eye1.htm
- Explanation of refraction
including parts of the eye that
refract light, their respective indices of refraction.
- Explanation of how the
eye-lens forms an image on the
retina,
including a diagram. http://science.howstuffworks.com/lens1.htm
- Include a description of
the layers of cells
in the retina and their functions. http://science.howstuffworks.com/eye2.htm
- Using reasonable values
for the size of the human eye,
apply
the lens equation to a person looking at an object. Make up
values for the object size and distance. Draw a scale diagram
for
this example.
- Hints: Use the
average depth of a human eye
for the
image distance. Select any object distance, and
calculate
the necessary focal length of the eye using the lens equation.
