We will do this
lab on Tuesday, Oct 30. For homework you need to read pp. 148-157. Your
lab
assignment is to prove (or disprove) the Work-Energy Theorem (p.152)
You need
to design a procedure to:
1) Analyze the motion of a block pulled along a horizontal surface
(with
friction) at constant speed.
2) Analyze a low-friction cart as it is accelerated using an applied
force.
3) Analyze lifting a mass vertically at constant speed.
4) Analyze lifting a mass when its speed changes.
You will write an introduction to this lab. In your introduction,
define the
terms in the Work-Energy Theorem (as well as the Theorem itself). You
will
write a procedure to carry out the four cases. You will have data
studio, a
force sensor and motion sensor. Your analysis should include graphical
methods
for determining work and speed.
Your conclusions should indicate whether your data supports the theorem
or not
for each case studied.
You will work in
a group of three people. Groups will be
randomly selected.
