I am a person who has come to the
field of education later in life, and as a special education teacher, I
feel it important to take an opportunity to introduce myself and give
some insight into my personal background. As a graduate of Old Dominion
University With a degree in Sociology, I entered the business world. I
have participated in various careers including the furniture, home
improvement, and industrial chemical businesses. This variety of
occupations resulted in having the opportunity to live in many
different parts of the country. Boston, San Francisco, Tucson, Memphis,
and San Antonio were some of the exciting locations that were part of
the experience. After several years, I was fortunate to find my wife,
Lynn and have two children, Brock and Andrew. The family experience then
brought me home to Virginia. After watching my children's expereience
in school and how some children struggled to achieve, a friend
convinced me to try a special education class at Old Dominion
University. At that point I knew what I needed to do. Returning to
school after many years was a challenge. However, after completing
school, I was fortunate in finding a job with the York County School
Division. I have been at Grafton High School since the first year the
school opened. Since I teach a class in pre-vocational skills, I like
to think my variety of occupational experiences gives me a unique
perspective to bring to the educational process.
