Grading Policy: Tests/Projects(35%): Testing is used to monitor the retention of course material. Tests will be based on classwork, homework, and quizzes. Study guides will be provided for most tests. Projects are used to involve students more deeply into the course material. Students will complete a variety of creative projects as well as more traditional projects. Quizzes (20%): Quizzes are used to monitor progress of students within a unit of instruction. Some quizzes will be announced; some will not. On quizzes that are NOT announced, students will be allowed to use their notebooks. Class
Work (10%):
While
the elective nature of this course requires little in the way of Journal (10%): Students will be required to write a daily journal entry that provides personal feelings and insight on the day’s topic. Sample journal topics might include discussing personal learning strategies, dreams, and other experiences. This will be done exclusively in-class. Absent students will not be penalized for journal assignments on excused absences. Current
Events (10%):Psychology is a social science where
information is continually being added
and updated.
Students will be required
to complete a current
events assignments every other week as a
supplement to course
material. In these assignments, student
will
be asked to apply what
they
have learned to the world around them.
Specific Participation (5%): Participation is crucial to understanding course content. This will be measured in a variety of ways, including volunteering answers, participation is small groups, and participation in pair activities. ·
Late
homework will be accepted
for up to half-credit ONLY UNTIL THE DAY OF THE UNIT TEST OR QUIZ. ·
Late
projects and current
events will be accepted for a penalty of one letter grade per day (not
class
period). ·
Class work
and journal

Hours:
Monday-Thursday,
This
course offers an historical and cultural study of
world history and geography that enables students to explore the
development of
peoples, places, and patterns of life from 1500 A.D. to the present.
Emphasis
is placed on geographic influences, with increased attention to the
development
and evolution of the nation-state. The theme of change with regard to
scientific and technological advancements is highlighted. Attention is
also
focused on the connections between people and events of contemporary
times.
Students have the opportunity to work with a variety of artifacts as
well as
primary and secondary sources to uncover and understand specific
historic
events and issues. 1st

Homework (10%):
Homework will be assigned daily. Most
assignments are reading assignments from the

textbook. Homework
will be checked every time it is assigned,
