Questions/Answers
When will I have homework?
You will have homework every night!! This includes weekends and holidays. The amount of homework you have will not be longer on weekends or holidays
 unless it is a project.
How do you average grades?
Each thing you do is weighted. In Pre-Algebra, Homework is 10% of your grade; Classwork is 10% of your grade; Notebooks are 20%; Quizzes are 25% of your grade; and
Tests are 35% of your grade.
How far in advance will I know about quizzes and/or tests?
You will know at least a week (5 days) in advance of any tests or quizzes (unless you will have a pop quiz!)
When can I get my average?
I average everybody's grade every 4 1/2 weeks (Interims and report cards); however, if you ask me for your average, I can give it to you within a day or two. Sometimes, I can
even give you your average when you ask.
Can I use calculators on my homework?
I have no control over your homework situation except what homework is given. If your parents allow you to use a calculator, then I suppose you can. I will, however, remind
you that a calculator will not be used on any tests or quizzes unless I tell you in advance.
Do I need to purchase a graphing calculator?
No, a graphing calculator (TI-83) will be provided for you in class if needed. The Pre-Algebra students will probably be exposed to the graphing calculator during the year.
What kind of calculator do you recommend for everyday use?
I suggest that you use a scientific calculator for everyday use.
Do you recommend a calculator be used?
A calculator should never be used as a "Do it for me" tool. It should only be used as a "Check it for me" tool. A CALUCLATOR WILL NOT ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU.
 How important are fractions?
Fractions and the concepts behind them are one the most important things you will ever learn. Avoiding fractions will not do you any good! Remember, fractions are your
friends!! A lot of upper level math is based on fractional concepts.
When are you after school for help?
I am available everyday after school for help if needed. Mondays, however, are not good because I have faculty and departmental meetings. Tuesdays and Thursdays I am
available until 3:45 (activity busses run as transportation home). I like to have advance notification of people staying after school. Always ask before you come to make sure
I will be there for you and that I do not have another engagement planned (like doctor's appointments, dentist's appointments, etc.)
Do you help during any other times besides after school?
I am willing to give up my planning time as a last resort, but you have to have prior permission from that teacher you will be leaving.
Am I allowed to start my homework in class?
You are allowed to start homework once it has been assigned to your class. I suggest you use the time given to you, so you can ask questions before you
get home and possibly get stumped.
