Course Description:  This class is designed to improve a student’s reading skills.  A typical class session involves working on the following skills:  decoding, comprehension, and writing.  The very small student to teacher ratio (5:1) is maintained in order to provide individualized instruction.  A class session is forty- five minutes daily.

 

Course Requirements:  The student is expected to have paper and two pens (with black or blue ink) in class every day.

 

Attendance Policy:  Attend class every day on time unless you are unable to be in school.  An infraction notice will be submitted to an administrator if the student is tardy to class three times.

 

Grading Criteria:  Class Work = 30%, Participation = 30%, Evaluation = 20%, Writing = 20%.

 

Procedures and Expectations:  The student is expected to contribute to the positive learning environment in my class at all times.  The student will use his/her own materials unless permission has been given by the owner to use his/her materials.  The student is expected to be respectful to one another and to respect himself/herself.

One of the following consequences may occur if the student violates our learning environment:  student-teacher conference, student (preferred presence)-parent-teacher phone conference, student-parent-teacher school conference.  An infraction notice will be submitted to an administrator if the previously listed consequences do not change the negative behavior.  The school guidelines will be followed for a serious disruption from a student.
