Course
Description: The English 11 courses
incorporate a study of American literature with interdisciplinary
aspects of United States history.
Competencies:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do
the following:
- Organize evidence, present, analyze and evaluate
persuasive papers
- Read and analyze relationships among American
literature, history, and culture
- Read and critique a variety of poetry and dramatic
selections
- Write in a variety of forms, such as expository,
persuasive and technical.
- Edit writing for correct grammar,
capitalization, punctuation, spelling sentence structure, and
paragraphing
- Analyze, synthesize, and organize information to
produce a research project
Course Requirements:
Students
are expected to prepare all assignments independently (unless otherwise
directed), read all
assigned works, complete homework, write cohesive analyzes of novels,
make observations
and regularly participate in class discussion.
Class Expectations:
When absent from class or school, it is your
responsibility to get
missed work prior to reporting to class so that you will be prepared
upon your return. Please e-mail me or get the assignment from another
student.
- All assignments are to be completed with care and
optimum effort.
- Come to class prepared, conscientious and committed
to
success.
- Bring textbook, novel and notebooks (three-ring
binder) daily.
- Maintain an organized notebook.
- Complete homework. Incomplete or late homework will
not be accepted.
- Be prompt to class.
