Course Outline

Course Description:

          This course continues the study of drama through performance-oriented and hands on work.  Students will continue play reading, learning theatre vocabulary, technical theatre and basic acting techniques.  Emphasis is placed on theatre production elements and the ability to work in a collaborative setting. 

Expectations:

          Students are expected to:

Ø       Work cooperatively and respectfully with others.

Ø       Audition for and perform (on or off stage) in the School productions. ***see explanation next page***

Ø       Participate in all class activities.

Ø       Perform in front of their classmates and others.

Ø       Read plays and other related materials.

Ø       Research and Write about theatre.

Ø       Evaluate performances (their own and others’)

Ø       Analyze and defend artistic choices (in character, plays, design, and performance)

Ø       Design and apply theatrical make up.

Ø       Design and create costume renderings.

Ø       Design and create set renderings.

Ø       Turn in all assignments completed and ON TIME.

Ø       Attend class regularly.

Ø       Memorize as necessary.

Ø       Learn and use appropriate theatrical vocabulary.










Materials Needed

Suggested, but not required:

Ø       Access to a video camera and tapes.

Ø       Several monologue books for young actors or teens.

All topics will be covered, but may not be taught in this order.

 

Evaluation: Participation: 35%, Performance 30%, Tests, written assignments, and quizzes 35%

 

 

 

A note about mandatory auditions:

Students may audition after school or in class.  They may audition simply for class credit or to be seriously considered for a roleEvery advanced drama student must audition for all school shows. This is great practice for future job interviews!  No student is obligated to accept a role in the After school productions. 

However, ALL Drama II and III/IV students MUST participate in the one act plays in some manner—no exceptions.  This will be an evening performance and dates will be announced on the first day of class.

Course Description:

          This course provides more intense study of drama through performance and hands on work.  Students will read and analyze plays; learn theatre vocabulary, begin playwriting, explore technical theatre and theatre management, and expand basic acting techniques.  Emphasis is placed on acting and directing techniques for theatre production there is a continued expectation of developing and utilizing the ability to work in a collaborative setting.

Ø       Perform regularly in front of their classmates and others.

Ø       Read plays and other related materials.

Ø       Research and Write about theatre.

Ø       Direct a minimum of one scene.

Ø       Turn in all assignments completed and ON TIME.

Ø       Attend class regularly.

Ø       Learn and use appropriate theatrical vocabulary.

Ø       A drama notebook for class notes and journal entries.

Ø       Pen or pencil every day.

Ø       Poster board and other project materials as required for individual assignments.
