Course Description:
Multimedia Communications Seminar provides students with opportunities to explore and develop various forms of multimedia and communications. Through this course, students are introduced to many multimedia and communication careers. Also, students are familiarized with how to properly use multimedia communication tools, software, and terms. Students are actively involved in multimedia and communication problem solving applications that reflect real world situations. This course provides students with the opportunity to clearly reflect upon and present information using multimedia communication devices, which will help them during the course of their professional career.

This course is application based. That means that all concepts that are taught are reinforced through projects. For example, students learn how to design logos in Adobe Illustrator. Students learn the design concepts behind popular logos such as Nike, Coca-Cola, etc. Students are then asked to follow these design concepts to develop their own logos.

Multimedia Communications Seminar is designed to help students in their professional and collegiate careers. So much of today's communication is done graphically and on computers. There is a great demand for college students and professionals that can use oral communications as well as graphic communications to present their ideas to others. Most major universities require students to begin their freshman year with a new computer and the ability to use it. Many major universities require students to create Web based portfolios and resumes. Employers that hire students directly out of college or high school are looking for employees that are technologically literate in basic desktop publishing and word processing.

In keeping with this mentality, the major emphasis of this course is on real world application. For each concept and project completed, I challenge my students to constantly ask themselves, "Why are we doing this?" Students learn applicable skills. Because of this and because of changing computer technology, this course, its concepts, and its projects are constantly changing. New projects and concepts will be added, and some will be taken away.
