Course Title:  Drama I

 

Course Description:  Drama I will provide an introduction to the art of theatre both practically and historically.  This will be accomplished with work that focuses on teamwork and collaboration, basic acting skills, basic technical theatre, theatre history, and theatre etiquette.

 

Upon completion of the Drama I course you will be better able to:

       Work within an ensemble

      Apply basic acting and public speaking skills to everyday life and school

     Have a working knowledge of basic theatre history

      Understand and apply theatre etiquette

         Backstage Etiquette and Safety

         Relationship Between Performance and

      Drama and Theatre in Contemporary Culture

Course Requirements:    3-Ring Binder to be used for notes and journaling

 

Attendance Policy:  To comply with the Virginia Law, students are expected to attend school everyday and to be on time unless there is an illness or death in the immediate family.  Tardiness will be dealt with in accordance to school policy.

 

Evaluation/Assessment:

 

      Homework 10%

      Tests/Essays/Projects 30%

     Class Work/Participation 40%

    Quizzes 20%

 

Class Procedures:   

        Homework will not be accepted late.

       It is the responsibility of the student to ask for and make up all work that is missed due to an absence.

        Students are expected to come to class prepared

 

 

Class Expectations:

         To develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of theatre.

       Have a great attitude about learning (This is a fun class!)

       To be an ambassador for the BHS Drama Department, promoting school spirit and school support.
