I began teaching at Grafton High
School in 1998, and since then, I
have taught English 12, Advanced Placement Literature & Composition (AP
English 12), English 10, Advanced English 10, Beginning Drama, and Survey of
World Drama. I have lived in Hampton
Roads since I was 3 years old, and I attended schools in Newport News
& Gloucester County. I earned my B.A. with majors in English
(literature emphasis) and Fine & Performing Arts (theatre concentration)
from Christopher Newport University. I also attended the University of Texas at Austin where
I earned an M. A. in Theatre History/Criticism/Theory/Text. I served as the sponsor for Grafton’s
Students Against Destructive Decisions for six years, and have assisted with all the major
drama productions at GHS since 1998.
As Grafton High
School’s Lead Clinical faculty
member, I am a liaison between GHS & the School of Education at the
College of William and
Mary. I assist in placing W&M’s student teachers with our cooperating teachers
and provide support for all involved in that partnership. I am also currently seeking a national
teaching certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards.
Outside of my educational pursuits, I spend most of my free time
with my family. I am the youngest of
five children and am close to my siblings and parents. My husband & I live in Hampton with
our pets, Einstein (a Dalmatian-Lab mix) and Calypso, our cat. I love reading, going to the movies, watching
television, traveling, taking photographs and scrapbooking,
hanging out with friends, and taking Einstein to the Bark Park. I am an active member of my sorority’s
alumnae organization with which I raise money to support the Children’s
Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
