What is a poem?
Does it need to rhyme?
Should it have meter?
A certain time?

What about rhythm?
What about pace?
Should it take up
A certain space?

Need I put in consonance?
Some alliteration?
Accent? Hyperbole?
Personification?

It just doesn't matter how you write your poem,
Or even what kind it is.
A quatrain, a limerick, a ballad, an ode,
Or even a narrative.

You can put in any number of words,
A tiny handful or scores.
It doesn't matter what you write,
Just as long as it's yours.
