Cheat and Be Cheated On
by Kelly S.

“Oh man, I can’t wait, ten full days skiing on the snowy white mountains. I love winter break, don’t you?” said Kallie while packing for their road trip. “Well, don’t you?” exclaimed Kallie.

“It’s not that I don’t want to go, it’s just I really wanted Jason to come with us,” said Chloe while finishing packing her enormous bag.

“Come on, just because Jason’s mom said he couldn’t go with us to meet your aunt doesn’t mean we can’t have the trip of a lifetime. You don’t need your boyfriend to be with you everywhere you go. We girls need freedom!” Kallie explained in a reassuring manner. “You didn’t tell Jason that your aunt would kind of be out the whole time did you?”

“Yeah, oh, he probably told his mom.” I wonder why he would tell her, knowing that she’d probably say no, Chloe thought. She pushed the idea aside and said to Kallie “Ok, I’ll have fun just for you. But I hope Jason and I will be fine after being apart for such an extended time.” I hope. I’m not sure Jason is strong enough to be left on his own.

“You crazy kids will be fine, ten days is nothing, you guys have been together since 9th grade. Three years is a lot of love, nothing will happen.” Kallie sensed Chloe’s concern and tried to comfort her by giving her a hug and reminding Chloe of all Jason and she have been through. “Come on, let’s get on the road.” She was also looking forward to starting an awesome junior year vacation and getting Chloe’s mind off of Jason.

“Sure I guess, I’m just going to call him and tell him were leaving,” said Chloe.

“Ok, meet me in the car,” Kallie called out.

Chloe went in the house and tried calling Jason. Ring…..ring……ring……ring…

“Oh, come on…. pick up, I need to talk”…….ring…ring.

“The Biggs family cannot come to the phone right now, please leave a message after the beep.”

“Typical, when ever I need to talk, no one’s there to listen.” Well, except Kallie.

When Chloe dragged what appeared to be all of her belongings out to the car, Kallie asked, “What did Jason say when you called?”

“It’s weird, he didn’t pick up,” Chloe sighed. He must not have heard the ring, Chloe thought. Chloe put it in the back of her mind and was looking forward to the trip.

And they were off. The longer time in the car, the crazier the girls got.

“Hit me baby one more time…” the girls sang.

“Let me see your one, two step!” shouted Kallie almost causing an accident. Anyone with her dance moves would be distracting.

“If you wanna be my lover, you got to get with my friends,” the girls cried while pointing at one another.

“Oh, I got to go…. you know to the restroom. Haha, I guess that big slurpie at the last stop was a bad idea,” said a very squirmy Kallie. “Come on; pull over to the next gas station.”

“Ok, hopefully the cell reception is better there.”

“Are you really going to call him again? I think you’d better give it a rest,” said a very concerned Kallie.

“I guess. Hurry up I want to get there soon it’s starting to get dark.”

Once they arrived and checked in, they ended up getting the cutest bellboy. That really pleased Kallie and she used her so-called “great flirting skills” on him. They only reminded Chloe of how much she missed Jason. When they got to their huge room Kallie noticed Chloe was feeling bad again and suggested to check in with Chloe’s aunt, then go out on the slopes. Chloe, hoping to get her mind off Jason, agreed. They went off holding their brand new “Big Feet” skies, and wearing their pink snowsuits. Soon they hit the great slippery slopes!

“I think I’m getting the hang of it!” Kallie exclaimed to Chloe.

“Yeah, you’re doing great!” said Chloe through laughs. This activity really took Chloe’s mind off of Jason, watching Kallie wobble and fall, and then wobble and fall again would entertain anyone.

Five days went by and Kallie wasn’t getting any closer to skiing for the Olympics. In those five days, Chloe still hadn’t heard from Jason, even though she had done her share of calling him. After a long day of attempting to ski, Chloe and Kallie went down to the coffee shop and got something nice and warm to make them feel better. After getting their ridiculously expensive coffees they walked around the shops in the lobby, where they spotted a quaint computer lounge.

“Let’s go in, I really want to check my Myspace to see if Jason tried to contact me,” Chloe rejoiced. I really hope he left me a text. I really need to know he cares. I want to be more than just a blonde, blue eyed girl he just had a long fling with.

“Sure. His phone could have gotten lost or broken. He probably left you a message,” said Kallie trying to reassure Chloe. I really hope he left he a message, he’s leaving her hanging on a thread.

“What! There’s nothing here from Jason,” Chloe shouted, causing them to receive weird looks. “His cousin, Derek, sent me a message,” Chloe said softly, trying to divert all the attention.

“Read what Derek sent,” said Kallie eagerly, hoping there was an explanation to ease her friend’s mind.

“I need to tell you something! Message me back when you can - Derek.”

“What do you think he needs to tell me?” asked Chloe in a weird voice.

“I don’t know, maybe he’s explaining why Jason hasn’t answered his calls, or sent you a message. Hopefully, it’s good news, like his phone broke,” Kallie reassured, not even believing her own explanation.

“Ok, here I go….. what should I say?” asked Chloe.

“I’ll do it,” Kallie took over the keys, pretending to be Chloe. “What do you need to tell me? Is it about Jason? He hasn’t picked up any of my calls, should I be worried?” - Chloe.

“Well, I don’t know how to tell you this, but Jason did something, not so great.” –Derek.

“What the heck does that mean?” said Chloe, with a really confused look upon her face. “What did he do and how bad? What could be that bad that he can’t tell me it himself?” - Chloe

“Well, Jason kind of, well… Sorry but it’s over. He cheated on you at Amanda’s Christmas party. He said that he is really sorry but… yeah, it’s over.” –Derek

“What, who with, how, why, what is his problem? What did I do to cause this? What, he couldn’t live for ten days without someone by his cheating side?” - Chloe.

“He isn’t sure you want to know who it is, but I’ll tell you anyway. It’s Shellie, yeah, freshman flirt Shellie! He says it’s not your fault, it kind of just happened. Sorry, but I got to go. If I were you I’d just get over him. Don’t worry about Jason; I’ll take care of it. You’ll be fine.”-Derek.

“What a scum!” shouted Kallie, which caused them to arouse attention.

“What are you looking at?” Kallie shouted at an old woman at the computer across the room. After Kallie’s outburst, people stopped staring! Kallie returned her attention back to Chloe and saw her in shock.

“How could he do this, after all this time, after all the talks we’ve had, after all the love I gave to him?” said Chloe on the edge of tears.

“Don’t worry, Derek is right, you’ll be fine! Jason knew what he was doing, and he is going to regret losing you!” Kallie said as she scooted over to hug and comfort Chloe.

“It’s just, eeeww, Shellie. She is the most promiscuous girl in school, and she’s only a freshman!” blurted Chloe.

“You know, Jason will never find anyone like you, there are always girls like Shellie, but you and I are great catches. And Jason lost one really hot chick,” said Kallie, making Chloe break a small smile and really think. Jason wasn’t the right guy for her, and she was way better without him.

“Make me a promise,” said Kallie.

“What?”

“That we will enjoy the rest of our vacation, and we will not let a stupid boy ruin our fun.”

“Sure, Jason doesn’t get to cheat and ruin an awesome trip.” I will do this for me. I will not let him hurt me even more. He doesn’t get to destroy everything. He won’t get away with it.

“Now where’s that bellboy?” said Kallie causing both of them to laugh. I hope Chloe will let lose and not let that uuuggghhh Jason hurt her even more! I won’t let him.

Over the next five days, Chloe pushed aside any thoughts of Jason. Kallie managed to slip away from Chloe enough times to pursue a plot of revenge with Derek. He can’t hurt my friend, they both thought constantly.

To keep Chloe busy, Kallie signed them up for any and all activities at the resort. They went to all the teen parties. They went tubing, which still didn’t put Kallie in the best light. They even had a spa day. Kallie really enjoyed that . . . no physical talents needed!

“Thanks, I really needed this!” Chloe whispered to Kallie.

“I know. Being pampered really takes away all pains, at least for the moment. After this were going to the mall, then to the slopes, then movie night! We’re spending our last night here like royalty,” planned Kallie.

When the vacation was over, they thanked Chloe’s aunt for the trip and told her they were sad to go. They really didn’t want to go back to doing schoolwork, and Chloe especially wasn’t looking forward to having to see Jason and Shellie in the halls together.

Chloe hadn’t heard from Derek since he told her about Jason and she really wanted to ask him how she should handle things. On the day they returned to school, the girls drove in together. On the way, Kallie was helping to keep Chloe calm and assured her that everything would be fine.

“It’s going to be Ok. When you see them, ignore them and keep walking. I’ll be with you most of today. We’re here, you ready?” said Kallie.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” answered Chloe.

“Let’s go,” they walked into school to their neighboring lockers. “It’s Ok, Jason is right there across the hall, and you’re still fine,” Kallie commented.

“Yeah, but he’s not with her yet. I’m turning around. Tell me when they’re gone,” Chloe stated, looking more embarrassed than ever. I’ll be ok. I’ll be ok. I’ll be ok.

“Ok, I see Shellie. And Jason is walking, walking, wait he just walked past Shellie with a weird look on his face,” said Kallie. “Who’s that behind Shellie? OMG, you’re not going to believe this! It’s Derek and Shellie arm and arm,” Kallie blurted, pretending she had no idea of her own scheme.

“What!” shouted Chloe while turning around and rubbing her eyes to make sure what she saw was correct. “Hold on, I’ll be right back,” Chloe indicated to Kallie. “Derek, Can I talk to you for a sec?” Chloe asked Derek in a confused tone of voice.

“What’s up?” Derek asked Chloe, as if nothing was weird.

“Um, this might sound rude, but don’t you hate Shellie?” Chloe blurted, not holding back.

“Well, hate is a strong word, but how do you think Jason feels about this whole affair?” Derek said slyly.

“You mean you’re dating Shellie just to teach Jason a lesson? Do you dislike Jason that much? ” Chloe asked.

“He deserves to know how it feels to be cheated. He hurt you; he had no regards for your feelings. And now Jason will know how it feels,” answered Derek.

“How do you think Shellie is going to take this?” asked Chloe.

“Shellie will do what she always does, go to the next guy she sees,” Derek expressed while giving a little (you have no idea what’s coming) wave to Shellie surrounded by a sea of guys, already seeing what he had just said occurring.

“That is true,” said Chloe laughing. “Thanks, you’re always there for me,” Chloe said while grabbing hands with Derek and walking to class, leaving Jason clueless and alone. And there was Shellie still content with all of the guys.

“We both know, and now they’ll know, that once a cheater always a cheater, and the cheater in the end usually gets cheated on!” Chloe reported as she walked off with Derek, and saw Kallie give her thumbs up. At that moment Chloe started the first “great” relationship of her life.
