How to Make a Country
Justin H.
The first three leaders of our land, had thought their lives were fun,
Mr. Adams, Dr. Jeff, and Colonel Washington
But as they talked they took a glance, and peered out on the sea,
And saw a ship, which came to state, King George had taxed the tea.
So then they thought right then and there, “Wouldn’t it be great,
To kick them out, and start again, and call this our own state?”
And Dr. Jeff, with just a smile, said “There’s some food for thought!”
And just like that, that one idea, lead to all those battles fought.
Washington, who hated Brits, went to tell his dear wife Marge,
Despite him being twenty five, they put him first in charge.
So there he went, to find some friends, to take the Mother State,
And when he came to Delaware, he had but twenty eight,
The whole state laughed, and called him dumb, because he had too few,
But still he knew, inside his mind, he’d spank Brit’s bottom blue.
He taught them all his special tricks, of how to beat the reds.
There’d be no drums or trumpets played, to warn the Brits ahead.
Alas the war came to a hill which you might hear in school.
And Washington did not rush in, for he was not a fool.
The men and him were dressed in green, and hid amongst the trees.
Meanwhile the Brits were dressed in red and scratching off their fleas.
Cornwallis thought that he’d be smart, and dress in bright red clothes.
He also thought he play the drums, Why? God only knows.
So there they marched, onto the field, but they were not that keen,
They didn’t know the enemy could hide and not be seen.
But the farmers also were somewhat adrift, for they couldn’t understand,
Why these freaks in bright red suits were trotting on their land.
So Mr. Wash, yes Wash for short, said “This is what we’ll do.
We’ll sneak around and blow them down like all our women do.”
Meanwhile the Brits were standing dumb, and only looked ahead
For no clever man, like themselves, could be snuck behind instead.
But what they thought, indeed came true, they fell for our sly tricks,
And all the farmers, young and old, beat Cornwallis with their sticks.
And all the reds, saw their leader, wailing like a goat,
And they all ran to Yorktown beach to jump back on their boats.
Thanks to the French, who later made, the things we know as fries,
stopped those men yet once again, with men and French supplies.
After Wash had caught his breath, he waited for the news
Cornwallis cried a song or two of sweet surrender blues.
And all the men and all their friends, jumped and danced along,
And red and blue, and Frenchmen too, accompanied his song.
And so it was, the joyous three, sat and drank their tea,
And made some plans, of golden sands, that’s made for you and me.
