Jennifer D. The bright stars glittered in the spotless sky. Illuminated by their light, she paced the street. Slowly, from one end to the other. Back again. Over and over. She was lost in her thoughts as she walked. Turned the corner. Back again. Over and over. She never faltered from her path, no matter how her thoughts strayed: Husband. Kids. Job. Each word resounded with her step. Over and over. Fights. Bad grades. Layoffs. It was all piling higher and higher. Sleeping on the couch. Principal called. Boss won’t stop yelling. Over and over. The stress mounted with each and every step. Slammed doors. Sibling rivalry. Irritating co-workers. Somewhere, in one of the nearby house, a clock struck. Once. Twice. Thrice. Three in the morning. Time to go back home. Maybe the couch is still warm. |
