My Fair Lady | Saturday, August 9

I'll [sic.] must admit that I'm a bit of a closet fan of amateur dramatics - particularly musicals - and as such, when I went along to the American High Schools Theatre Festival presentation of My Fair Lady, I was expecting the usual scattering of mistakes and slip-ups (endearing as they are) that normally accompany an amateur show like this. However, I was to be presently surprised (shocked even) by this amazing young cast, drawn from The York County School of the Arts.

For a group of teenagers, they showed an amazing depth and professionalism far beyond their years - in particular Laura Hartle, who played the lead part of Eliza Doolittle. In fact, I find it impossible to do anything other than heap praise on this show - and the only shame is that I waited till the last performance of their run to go along, and now won't be able to recommend it to anyone.
