In 5th grade we will be studying

 English/Writing: Parts of speech, dictionary and thesaurus skills, a variety of writing assignments, as well as weekly spelling journals and test.

Reading: We will read a variety of genres.  Specific skills to include cause and effect, author’s purpose, character, setting, and generalization.

Science:  Sound and Light, Matter, Life Processes and Living Systems, Oceans, Changing Earth, Scientific Investigation

Math:  Computation, Fractions and Decimals, Metric and Customary Measurement, Time, Geometry, Perimeter, Area, Volume, Circles, Probability and Statistics, Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

Social Studies:  : Historical and Geographical Analysis, Pre-Columbian Life, Early Exploration and Settlement, Colonial America, American Revolution, United States Constitution, Westward Expansion, Civil War and Reconstruction
