Suggested activities to support mastery of basic math facts:

·         Create flash cards of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts depending on your child’s skill level.  Please feel free to ask your child’s teacher for a list of facts that are tested.

·         Practice Math facts for a few minutes each day.  Introduce a group of five facts, and review them nightly.  Once your child has mastered those five facts, add one.  When he/she can successfully answer this group add another fact to the pile.  Adding one piece of new information at a time will reinforce the facts they are confident about, while expanding their knowledge bank at a reasonable rate.

·         Roll two dice or draw two cards and add, subtract, multiply or divide the numbers.

·         Use available resources.  If your child is in the beginning stages of understanding basic facts, give them manipulatives (such as buttons or candy) to help them visualize the facts.  For example, 2 blue buttons and 3 green buttons makes 5 buttons all together.

·         The Internet is full of wonderful resources for reviewing basic Math Facts.

Visit the sites on the top left for math practice.
