PE

PE TeacherPhysical Education

Welcome to the Seaford Elementary Physical Education Web page. Throughout the year we touch on all of the main sports such as; football, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, floor hockey and gymnastics. My philosophy for elementary physical education is to give the students the basic knowledge of skills and rules of various sports. We do not just play each basic sport. There are several fun lead up activities that enhance the basic skills for each sport. Students may not enjoy a specific sport but they may however enjoy the lead up activities so they will still learn the skills involved with each sport taught.

My grading procedure is not based on what skills the students can master. I grade the students on 100% effort, participation, and attitude.

The Physical Education department holds several extra curricular activities throughout the school year such as; the PE interactive day, Jump Rope for Heart, Field Day, SOL Celebration, and the Physical Education Championships at York High School.

Every Friday at Seaford, the Physical Education staff selects a female and a male athlete of the week from each grade level. Their names are written on the athletes of the week billboards located in the upper grade hallway. The students selected are those who displayed the three qualities that make up a great athlete:

SPORTSMANSHIP

TEAMWORK

RESPECT

We try to teach our students that being a great athlete is not based only on skill and achievement. A great athlete is someone who never gives up and conducts himself or herself in a caring and respectful way in any competitive situation.
