What should I do when my child is ill?
- ABSENCES
- Please report all
absences to the school office at 898-0352 (voice mail
available 24 hours/day). This is a safety
precaution and we will be calling you at home, work, etc.
to verify student absences in compliance with Virginia
state law if we don't hear from you.
- ILLNESS
- After a child has
been sick, please do not send them back until they have
gone 24 hours without a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or
muscle fatigue. Remember the following: "If your
child is sick today, then tomorrow they shouldn't return
to school or play."
- MEDICATION
- If medication is
necessary during the school day it must be brought to the
clinic by a parent or guardian in the original container
with the appropriate label. A signed parental permission
form must by completed. Please refer to p.9 of the
Student Handbook and Conduct Code for clarification.
- P. E.
EXCUSES
- Illness, especially
asthma, and injury can result in the need for limited PE
activities. This requires a written note from a parent or
guardian as stated per the Student Handbook: "The
only acceptable excuse from physical education for more
than three continuous days is a doctor's excuse."
This is especially true with sprains and breaks. We need
specific instructions from the physician to insure your
child's safety.
- HEALTH
CARDS
- Please complete the
orange Annual Health Update cards promptly so we are
aware of current phone numbers, health status, and
medications. We also must have an emergency telephone
number for each student in case of illness or accident.
Please include your cell phone and pager numbers.
Thank you
for your cooperation and please call me in the clinic at 898-0375
with any questions.
***REMINDER***
The Virginia General Assembly passed a law requiring Hepatitis B
immunization for all students entering 6th grade on or after July
1, 2001. Our current 5th graders are the first class affected by
this new law. Students without documentation of the vaccine will
not be permitted to enter 6th grade in September, 2001.
Hepatitis B is a
series of 3 injections administered over a 6 month period of
time. Please start this ASAP and send the documentation to
Mrs. Harris in the clinic when completed.
