VSBA Hot Topic Conference on
The Changing Face of Public Education
School board members from across the state joined together for the first statewide conference that addressed educational challenges of Students with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), at the VSBA Hot Topic Conference at the Charlottesville Omni on August 24, 2006. More than 200 participants, including R Page Minter, Vice Chairman, District 4 attended the conference. Some of the topics touched upon at the session included: .
- Linking Limited English Proficiency to No Child Left Behind
- The Cost of Success: The Financial Impact of LEP
- Community Engagement to Create an Action Agenda
- Panel Discussion & Audience Dialogue on Common Issues
VSBA President Elizabeth Daniels presided during the conference. The Virginia School Boards Association is a private, voluntary, nonpartisan, self-supporting, organization whose primary mission is the advancement of education through the unique American tradition of local citizen control of, and accountability for, the Commonwealth's public schools. The mission of the VSBA is to provide member boards with services, training and advocacy so that they may exercise leadership in public school governance on behalf of public education for all the children of the Commonwealth.
