Principal's Message

A Message from Mrs. Ahearn

Mrs. Ahearn

A Message from the Principal

Have you noticed all the new faces around Magruder?  We have students and teachers who have joined us from all over this country and the world!

o       Ms. Angela Collins, a Visiting International Faculty member hails from British Columbia in Canada, but taught for the last several years in South Korea.  Mrs. Collins now teaches kindergarten at MES.

o       Mrs. Beth Beaubien, second grade teacher, joined us after teaching in Florida and Michigan.

o       Mrs. Debbie Bennett, kindergarten teacher, and Mr. Phillip Canady, third grade teacher, are from Bethel Manor Elementary in the southern part of the county.

o        Mrs. Ronda Crosby, third grade teacher, comes to us from Chesapeake Public Schools.

o       Mrs. Jennifer Walker, fourth grade teacher taught for the last several years in New Kent County.

o       Ms.Lyndsay Kimbro is a first year teacher from Kent State University in Ohio working with our Special Education team.

We also have several new para educators this year.  Mrs. Cindy Curtin works in our pre-school, Mrs. Tucker Monk, and Mrs. Mary Burgette are kindergarten para educators, and Ms. Megan Whitaker works with the Special Education staff.  Mrs. Beverly Naylor works in reading and general education classrooms as a para educator.

Mrs. Beth Posada is our new secretary in the MES office.  She and Mrs. Sebert make a great team as they welcome visitors and help parents register students.  This summer they registered 140 new kindergarten students!  MES now has the largest kindergarten enrollment in the entire Division with 7 classes.

As I write this, we have a total enrollment of 670 students, an all-time high for MES.  Luckily, our new addition containing 4 classrooms is due to open in the next two weeks.  Four of our fourth grade classes will take over those new rooms after opening the year in the Learning Cottages, the art room, and the stage.  I’m sure that Mrs. Powell and Ms. Brown will be glad to have their art and music areas back!

Our final new staff member isn’t really new—she got a promotion!  Congratulations to Mrs. Alexis Swanson, former Special Education teacher, on her promotion to Assistant Principal!

Welcome to these highly qualified staff members and to our new families as well.  We are glad that you are a part of our Magruder family!
