Welcome to Kindergarten !


We are so glad you are here.

 This quarter in Kindergarten... 

Math:  We will learn about patterns, sorting, numbers, and  make simple graphs.   

SOL K.1-The student will using 10 concrete items, identify and describe a set as having more, less, or the same. 

SOL K.2-The student will ,using 10 concrete items, tell how many by counting orally, select the number, and write the number. 

SOL K.14-The student will gather data by counting and tallying. 

SOL K.15-The student will display data to form a simple object graph. 

SOL K.17-The student will sort and classify objects according to similar attributes (size, shape, and color). 

SOL K.18-The Student will identify, describe, and extend a repeating relationship found in common objects, sounds, and movements.

Reading:  We will learn the comprehension strategies of recall/retell, using pictures to help us read, and comparing/contrasting.  We will also practice rhyming and naming different letters.  In October, we will begin to have a letter of the week.  The letters we will study this quarter are M, B, and S.  We will also learn and practice using the sight words a, the, my, can and at.

SOL K.1-The student will demonstrate growth in the use of oral language.

SOL K.2-The student will use listening and speaking vocabularies. 

SOL K.7-The student will develop an understanding of basic phonetic principles. 

SOL K.8-The student will demonstrate comprehension of fiction and non-fiction using a variety of strategies.

Writing:  We will practice writing our names and learn what a sentence is.  We will also begin to spell words using letter sounds.

SOL K.10-The student will print his/her first and last names.

SOL K.11-The student will write to communicate ideas.

Science:  We will learn about the different seasons and will study things that grow in fall.

SOL K.9-The student will describe seasonal changes, growth of seeds and plants, common animals, and describe the seasonal changes in weather.

Social Studies:  We will explore what makes a good citizen, people that lived in the past, and fire safety.  We will have a fire fighter visit and will even get to see a real fire truck!

SOL K.8-The student will demonstrate that being a good citizen involves taking turns, being honest, being kind, completing class chores, respecting others, using self control, and sharing.

SOL K.2-The student will describe life in the present and in the past and begin to recognize that things change over time.
