The Grafton Bethel Elementary Lego Team is going Green! As part of a competitive program called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) members of the GBE's Lego Team researched ways to save energy around the school and in tier homes this year. It included an energy audit of Grafton Bethel and discussions with the YCSD energy gurus, Hal Herndon and Russell Payne about where the school's energy comes from and ways we each can play a part in saving energy. The team's findings were presented to staff, parents students, and even to the School Board Administration. The result? We now have new energy saving lights in the gym, and the students walk around telling teachers to turn off their lights, computers and shut classroom doors! The program was so successful the original team was expanded to include 50 students who participated in the Lego League challenge "Power Puzzle". All students researched and created original skits about how to save energy, as well as program a Mindstormer Lego Robot to complete tasks assigned.
