The Seaford Elementary and Dare Elementary gymnasiums are brighter and more energy efficient now thanks to a recent lighting upgrade. The new ultra-efficient, high-bay T-5 fluorescent lights were purchased and installed by the Division's maintenance department in December, 2008. In addition to drastically improving the quality of light, this retrofit will reduce power consumption from 400 watts per fixture to 242 watts per fixture. "The students and staff love the new lights! They are so much brighter and we are proud to be saving energy and the environment." - Elementary School Principal.

Over the past two years, the school division has completed similar gymnasium and cafeteria lighting upgrades at eight school sites: Magruder Elementary, Coventry Elementary, Bethel Manor Elementary, Tabb Elementary, Yorktown Elementary, Mount Vernon Elementary, Grafton Bethel Elementary and York High School. Tabb Middle and Queens Lake Middle are due to receive gym lighting upgrades in the spring of 2009.
