Mr.
Menefee's Virtual Classroom
William
Menefee, Jr. was born and raised in Luray, Virginia “Home of the Beautiful Caverns
of Luray”. After graduation from the
Shenandoah
Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia, he returned to Luray to become the 10th
band director in the history of Luray High School, his alma mater.
He taught for fifteen years in the public schools
of Page and Warren Counties, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley
of Virginia. After a 2 year stint at the
prestigious
Mariner’s Museum as an Interpreter/Educator, he has been employed
with the York
County School Division since 1996. For
the past six years, he has been at Grafton School Complex, as assistant
band
director for both Grafton Middle and Grafton High School. Grafton
School Complex now boasts an enrollment of nearly 600 instrumental
students. For the past twenty-seven
years, bands under his direction have consistently received superior
ratings at
festivals and contests.
Mr.
Menefee is a regular adjudicator for Festivals of Music/Music In the
Parks. In 2003 he was selected to guest
conduct District XV All District Band and Newport News All City Honors
Band. In 2005 he guest conducted the Chesapeake, Virginia All-City Band and in 2007 was the
guest conductor of the Middle Penninsula~Northern Neck Area Band.
Mr. Menefee
is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Virginia
Music
Educators Association, the Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors
Association,
and the International Association of Jazz Educators.
He is also a sustaining life alumni member of
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional fraternity for men in music. He is a multiple year honoree in Who’s
Who
Among America’s Teachers. Bill is
also a
member of the Mathews Yacht Club.
Bill resides in the White Marsh area of Gloucester with his wife, Kathy and two
children, Bryan and
Kaitlyn. Bill’s hobbies include golf,
fly-fishing and spending
time with his family cruising the Chesapeake Bay
aboard their boat ~ INSTIGATOR.
